CēVē Help

Overview

Thank you for using CēVē (pronounced “see vee”), a mobile app that provides relevant, real-time information to improve travel efficiency and safety for drivers. This is a new product, so we’ll be experimenting with features and user interfaces as we learn from our customers. We would love to hear your feedback and you can send it to info@ceve.io. Your feedback (good and bad) on features, usability, and bugs is invaluable, so please don’t hesitate to mention anything.

Using CēVē

CēVē is designed to be used by drivers, while driving, but only in a safe manner. If you intend to look at the display while driving, your phone should be mounted to your dashboard or windshield in a visible location. You should not hold your phone in your hand or lap, and should not touch the screen while your vehicle is moving. Otherwise, you can use the audio features of CēVē regardless of the location of your phone. In addition, some data, including speed limits and signal timing predictions, may be incorrect, and so you should always defer to road signs and traffic lights as the final authority.

The first time you open the CēVē app, you will be asked to “Allow CēVē to access your location?”. You should select “Allow While Using App” and make sure “Precise Location” is selected. After using the app for a day, you will then be asked to “Allow CēVē to also access your location even when you are not using the app?” If you would like CēVē to work in the background and automatically start when you’re driving then you should select “Change to Always Allow”. You will then be asked periodically if you want to continue allowing this, and you can change the setting at any time through the iOS Settings app. CēVē will conserve your battery by only using your location when it thinks you’re driving.

You will also receive an alert that says “CēVē Would Like to Access Your Motion & Fitness Activity”. You should select “OK” if you want CēVē to automatically detect when you’re driving and when you stop. This is required for the Automatic Pause “When Not Driving” option to work.

Phone Requirements

CēVē requires an Apple iPhone running iOS version 13 or higher. CēVē also requires access to the Internet in order to retrieve real-time information based on your location. It will use your cellular data plan and may result in additional data fees.

User Interface

The user interface is organized into 3 sections:

The map pane displays your current location on a map, along with other relevant information such as the road name, traffic light locations, and other points of interest. You can access the menu by tapping the info icon in the upper-right corner of the map. A speaker icon is shown below the info icon, and you can tap it to enable or disable audible announcements. The display can also be oriented horizontally by rotating your phone.

The speedometer pane displays your current speed along with a green arc that shows the range of speeds to arrive at a green light, and a smaller red arc that shows the speed limit. When a traffic light is red, it displays a countdown timer for the next green light, including any protected turn arrows.

The information pane displays indicators such as the speed limit, traffic light status, and mode of travel (driving, cycling, or walking). Different icons and colors are used to convey status of the various indicators.

Speed Limits

A speedometer displays your current speed with an orange needle. A red arc shows speeds above the current speed limit.

The box in the bottom left shows the speed limit in miles per hour. It will be colored yellow when you exceed the limit slightly. It will be colored red when you exceed a configurable threshold above the limit, and you will receive an audible alert.

Traffic Lights

Red circles indicate the estimated time-to-green for each traffic signal, with a one minute countdown timer that updates every second. Arrows show the allowed turn directions. If there is more than one signal (for example, a left turn lane) then a timer will be displayed for each light that is red. You will hear an announcement approximately 10 seconds before the light is predicted to change green.

The circle in the bottom middle shows the status of the next traffic light. A question mark symbol indicates that there is not an accurate estimate for when the light will change. An exclamation point indicates that the signal is in an alert condition or that no timing information is currently available.

A speedometer displays your current speed with an orange needle. A green arc shows the range of speeds to drive in order to arrive at a green light.

A green circle in the bottom middle indicates the maximum advisory speed in order to arrive at a green light. It will be colored yellow if you are currently going below the speed range predicted to arrive at a green light. A Premium subscription is required for advisory speeds.

When an upcoming traffic light is detected, you will hear an announcement with the range of speeds predicted to arrive at a green light, if possible.

Subscriptions

CēVē offers two subscription levels, including free trial periods, that you can choose from.

The CēVē Standard monthly subscription includes time-to-green-light estimates and green-light notifications, speed limits and notifications when exceeding limits.

The CēVē Premium monthly subscription includes all the benefits of the Standard subscription, plus speed advisories to arrive at green lights, indications when you cannot make green lights, and Apple Watch support.

Automatic Launching

If you have the Automatic Pause and Automatic Resume features enabled then CēVē will detect when you start and stop driving, even when it is running in the background (or not running at all). Automatic Resume requires that Location access is set to “Always”. You may have to drive about a quarter mile before CēVē will start automatically. These features work better if you have Motion & Fitness access enabled because it can detect if you are driving, cycling, or walking.

You can also configure CēVē to launch automatically when you get in your car if you have an Apple CarPlay or Bluetooth car audio system. To configure this, run the Apple Shortcuts app on your iPhone, select the “Automation” tab at the bottom of the screen, and follow the instructions below:
